Video: Dr. Justin Shmalberg, DVM
Created by Dr. Shmalberg, fresh dog food, individually portioned and delivered to your door.
Your dog may be temporarily placed on a bland diet by your veterinarian. How does this factor into your typical NomNomNow feeding routine?
After a fasting period of about 12 to 24 hours, you can reintroduce Nom Nom by mixing half of a portion of Nom Nom with equal portions rice (or another gentle carbohydrate). Typically, this will have been enough time to get your dog back on track, and give the bacteria within the gut enough time to adapt.

Many people will talk about a bland diet, and a bland diet means different things to different people. It might be low-fat to some and a higher carbohydrate diet to others, so it is something that we do not really know what diet is best when you start to reintroduce it. Certainly, if an animal has a sensitivity to a more rich diet or a diet high in fat, then when you reintroduce a fresh diet like NomNomNow, what you can actually do is take rice or some other carbohydrate and give half the proportion as that and then half of your normal NomNomNow portion for the meal that you feed. After that fasting period of about 12 to 24 hours, that in many cases will be enough to sort of just give a diet that is not as complex, not as diverse, and in the short term, will not cause any health consequences or deficiencies, but it gets your dog on the best track to recovering and gives the bacteria within the gut sort of a chance to heal and adapt.
